At last! New scoops
monthly award
Mike New's stunning
season has finally
gained recognition
nationally after he was
voted BBL Player of the
Month for February.
New,
who'd missed out on the
prize after being
shortlisted in November
and January, scooped 34%
of the vote to beat off
the challenge of Calvin
Davis, Shawn Myers, Niki
Arinze and Josiah James.
New
averaged around 20
points and 12 rebounds
per game during
February, merely
mirroring his season's
average during arguably
his best campaign since
joining the league in
1996.
Indeed, the veteran
forward is placed 6th in
the BBL scoring charts
and 2nd in rebounding
making him the only
player in the league to
average 20+ points and
10+ rebounds per game.
There
was no double for the
Riders, however, with
Newcastle's player-coach
Fabulous Flournoy
scooping the Coach's
award after leading his
team to an 8-0 record
during February.
Flournoy beat Karl Brown
and Chester's Paul Smith
after claming 41% of the
vote.
