DMU Leicester Riders
94-83 Milton Keynes
Lions
BBL Trophy
John Sandford Centre
Dmu Leicester Riders
recorded back-to-back
wins for the first time
since October when they
overcame Milton Keynes
Lions 94-83 at the John
Sandford Centre on
Saturday evening.
Riders avenged two
previous defeats at the
hands of the Lions this
season. And this victory
puts them in charge of
their pool in the
Trophy.
They started well as
seven Yorick Williams
points helped them into
an 11-7 lead. Former
Riders ace Mike New, now
with Lions, had two
early shots blocked
However, Lions stayed
well in touch with two
three-pointers late in
the first quarter from
Kevin Griffin and Robert
Youngblood. Lions, who
led the league for much
of October, hit back in
the second quarter.
Another Griffin triple
tied the game at 21-21
before Tony Windless and
Shawn Jamison shared
five points to give them
a 34-29 lead. However,
they were pegged back to
41-40 at the break.
Riders snatched control
from the start of the
third quarter. Delme
Herriman opened with a
three-pointer and Shawn
Myers added another as a
9-0 burst led to a Lions
time-out.
Riders continued to
build their lead as
Myers scored a further
six consecutive points.
The final quarter began
with Riders leading
69-59 and the game
looked settled when
Barbadian international
Andrew Alleyne threw
down a huge dunk.
Lions narrowed the gap
to 82-77 and ensured a
tight finish to the
contest.
A Williams block on Dru
Spinks prevented Lions
from getting any closer
before Terrence McGee
scored a pair of
free-throws and fed
Alleyne to gain an 86-77
advantage.
Riders kept their cool
from the free-throw line
and netted the final six
points to seal a
convincing victory. They
were led by a 26-point
haul from Myers,
supported by 19 from
McGee and 15 each from
Williams and Alleyne.
Riders are not in action
again until their
January 5 clash at
London United which will
decide who reaches the
last four of the
competition.
Riders: Myers 26, McGee
19, Alleyne 15, Williams
15, Herriman 12, Lamble
4, Mills 2, Paternostro
1.
Lions: Griffin 15,
Jamison 15, Windless 13,
Brown 11, Youngblood 9,
Spinks 8, New 7, Baker
5.

Chester Jets 67-112 DMU
Leicester Riders
BBL Championship
Northgate Arena, Chester
An incredible first
quarter led to an easy
win on the road for DMU
Leicester Riders over
Chester Jets.
The Riders shot out to a
13-0 start and backed it
up with another 14-0 run
to take the first 10
minutes 32-4. A
shellshocked Jets team
rallied slightly in the
second as the half
closed 54-23 in
Leicester’s favour.
There was more heavy
scoring from the
visitors in the third
quarter as a 14-2 burst
opened up a 68-25 lead
with seven minutes of
the period to play.
A weakened Jets team
battled on but couldn’t
get any kind of momentum
and were soundly beaten
by a rampant Riders
squad led by 38 points
from Yorick Williams
(pictured).

Scottish Phoenix Honda
Rocks 84-72 DMU
Leicester Riders
BBL Championship
Braehead Arena, Glasgow
DMU Leicester Riders
slipped to their third
consecutive defeat in
the BBL Championship
when they suffered an
84-72 setback at the
Scottish Phoenix Honda
Rocks yesterday.
It is five years since
Riders scored a victory
on their travels north
of the border, but this
game started well for
the visiting team. The
two sides could barely
be separated in the
early exchanges as the
lead changed hands three
times before Rocks
finished the first
period strongly to
snatch a 22-15
advantage.
The Glasgow-based club,
who have won their last
six matches at the
Braehead Arena,
stretched their
advantage in the second
quarter and Riders were
42-31 adrift at halfway.
However, Riders looked
strong early in the
third frame.
They got back to within
five points before the
home side rallied behind
Sterling Davis, who
totalled 25 points, and
the deficit looked
insurmountable at 65-51
with just one quarter of
the match remaining.
Riders showed real fight
in the final stages, led
by point guard Terrence
McGee on his old
stomping ground.
He scored five points to
spark a run of 10
unanswered that cut the
deficit to 77-70.
However, a number of
fouls ensued as the
chasing team stepped up
the defence to try to
get the ball back, and
Rocks closed out the
game from the free-throw
line.
