DMU Leicester Riders
86-87 Poujoulat Heat
Guildford
BBL Championship
John Sandford Centre
The Poujoulat Heat
Guildford re-gained top
spot in the BBL
Championship after
surviving a late scare
to beat the DMU
Leicester Riders 86-87.
The teams traded baskets
early in the contest
until the Heat posted a
22-6 finish to the first
quarter to lead 16-33, a
lead which they held
throughout the second,
going in 40-55 to the
good at the half.
A pair of three-pointers
from Terrence McGee
narrowed the gap to
48-57 in the third, but
the Heat rattled off 12
consecutive points late
on to look as though
they had the game won at
56-79 going into the
decisive stanza.
The momentum began to
shift in the favour of
the home side as Yorick
Williams took advantage
of an unassuming defence
to drain a 35ft
three-pointer, but the
Heat still led 68-87
with 4:00 minutes
remaining.
From that point the
Riders scored the last
18 points of the game.
It began to get tight
with 2:02 left when
Williams netted another
triple that was swiftly
followed by a further
three from McGee.
After Chris Brown missed
a pair of free-throws,
McGee found Williams for
another trey that
brought the Riders back
to 86-87.
After Brian Dux
committed an offensive
foul with 20.6 left,
Terrence McGee had the
chance to steal the game
but missed with a
fall-away jumper.
The Riders swiftly
fouled Dean Williams but
he intentionally missed
from the stripe in order
to run the last 1.2
seconds off the clock.
Mike Martin led the Heat
with 23 points.
McGee led all scoring
with 27 and Williams had
23, including 6/10 from
beyond the arc, whilst
Andrew Alleyne
(pictured) had a massive
20 points and 18
rebounds.

London United 86-85 DMU
Leicester Riders
BBL Championship
SPACe Centre, London
London United secured a
vital home win in their
fight for a play-off
place as they beat DMU
Leicester Riders 86-85
in a topsy-turvy match.
Great Britain
international Tarik
Johnson (pictured) was
the star man for United
with 33-points including
a vital three during an
8-3 run to close out the
game.
After an even first
quarter that United
shaded 24-20 the match
exploded into life with
a 19-4 run by Leicester.
The burst put them 46-33
in front on their way to
a 50-39 half time
advantage.
However, it was London’s
turn during the third
quarter. Runs of 14-5
and 13-1 ensured they
led 67-60 heading into
the final period.
Again Leicester bounced
back and were 82-78 in
front with three minutes
remaining before London
finally did enough to
claim the win.

DMU Leicester Riders
73-58 Scottish Phoenix
Honda Rocks
BBL Championship
John Sandford Centre
Dmu Leicester Riders
turned in one of their
best defensive
performances of the
season to claim their
first victory of 2007 at
the John Sandford Sports
Centre on Saturday.
Riders kept Scottish
Rocks to 13 points or
less in three of the
four quarters as they
eased to a 73-58
success.
Despite playing in
Newcastle the night
before, Riders looked
fresh and, with Andrew
Alleyne dominating
inside, they raced into
to a 11-4 lead.
With their defence
swarming Rocks at every
opportunity, Riders
netted 10 of the last 12
first-quarter points to
lead 24-12. The
advantage was up to 17
in the opening stages of
the second quarter, with
only some flawless foul
shooting from the Scots
preventing Riders from
running away with the
game.
Rocks had their best
spell of the match just
after half-time and cut
the lead to 49-42 midway
through the third
period.
But Terrence McGee shut
the door with a
scintillating spell. The
highlight of nine points
in three minutes from
the guard came as he hit
a long-range basket on
one play and then netted
all three free throws
when he was fouled
trying to repeat the
feat. At the other end
McGee came up with two
steals.
The fourth quarter was
academic because Riders
would have won the game
without scoring in the
last 10 minutes.
Riders: Alleyne 24,
McGee 17, Y Williams 10,
Paternostro 10, Herriman
8, Mills 4, A Williams,
Lamble, Pearson.
Rocks: Joseph 15,
Yanders 15, Davis 11,
Murray 9, Hampton 6,
Hunter 2, Sterk,
Pearson, Wholers.

Springfield Honda
Newcastle Eagles
leapfrogged over the
Milton Keynes Lions into
fourth place in the BBL
Championship table after
a 101-96 victory over
the DMU Leicester Riders
at the Metro Radio Arena
on Friday night.
In a close game
throughout, the Eagles
took control early on,
and three 6-0 bursts
throughout the second
quarter gave the home
side a 49-43 half-time
lead. The second
half saw the visitors
fight back, and took the
lead midway through the
third period at 55-58
off the back of a 6-0
tear of their own, but
the Eagles managed to
take a single point lead
at 73-72 into the final
stanza.
The final period saw
both teams trading
baskets before the
Eagles broke the game
open with a 12-5 run, in
which Eagles' Shawan
Robinson scored all
twelve points, to give
the home side a 96-86
lead. The Riders
valiantly attempted to
trim the deficit, but
the Eagles were able to
hold on for the victory.
Robinson led all scorers
in the game netting 31
points for the Eagles,
while Yorick Williams
led the Riders scoring
with 24 points.

DMU Leicester Riders
88-92 Plymouth Raiders
BBL Championship
John Sandford Centre
Dmu Leicester Riders won
three quarters but could
not recover from a
sluggish start as they
lost to Plymouth Raiders
at the John Sandford
Sports Centre on
Saturday night.
Their exploits of
reaching the BBL Trophy
semi-finals on Friday
night seemed to take a
heavy toll in the first
quarter as Riders went
seven minutes before
making their first field
goal.
By that stage Raiders'
man-mountain Carlton
Aaron had helped his
team to a 20-4 lead.
Aaron posted 15 points
and 10 rebounds in the
opening quarter and that
was more than Riders
managed as a team in
either category as
Plymouth led by 21
points after 10 minutes.
With the limbs starting
to warm up, Riders
mounted their comeback
early in the second
period. An 11-2 run cut
the deficit to 15 by
half-time, but it was in
the second half that
they really found top
gear.
Rob Paternostro hit five
points in a row and
Yorick Williams added
another seven in a hurry
as a 14-4 start to the
third quarter meant they
were only five points
adrift less than three
minutes into the second
half.
After Raiders regained
their composure, Riders
rallied again in the
final period to trail
69-66. But back-to-back
three-pointers from
DeAntoine Beasley
restored Plymouth's
double-digit lead.
Riders halved the
deficit with consecutive
long-range baskets from
Shawn Myers and Terrence
McGee. But time seemed
to be running out on
them.
Some poor foul shooting,
though, from Raiders and
a massive three-pointer
from McGee cut the lead
to 87-85 with 18 seconds
remaining. But Plymouth
captain Gavin Love made
five from six
free-throws in the
closing seconds to keep
Riders at bay.
Yorick Williams had an
explosive 25 points to
lead all scorers on the
night, closely followed
by McGee, who added 23
points to six assists,
five rebounds and four
steals. Myers'
statistics were probably
the most impressive,
however, with 20 points
and 17 rebounds.
Riders: Y Williams 25,
McGee 23, Myers 20,
Paternostro 7, Herriman
7, Lamble 4, Alleyne 2,
A Williams, Mills.
Raiders: Moore 22, Aaron
19, Lasker 16, Beasley
14, Love 12, Gall 7,
Woodhouse 2, Burchell,
Nesbit, Danchie.

Leicester Riders
BBL Trophy
SPACe Centre, London
London United picked up
a 78-77 victory over the
DMU Leicester Riders in
the BBL Trophy at the
SPACE Centre on Friday
evening, however the
victory was not enough
for them as the Riders
progressed through to
the semi-finals of the
competition on points
difference.
The home side started
the stronger, and the
succession of four
three-pointers gave them
an early 24-15 lead in
the opening period.
The second quarter saw
London maintain their
advantage and lead 42-31
at the half.
The second half saw the
Riders trim the deficit
back to four points at
49-45 off the back of a
7-0 burst, before a
Terrence McGee
three-pointer at the end
of the third for the
Riders tied the game at
54-54. The final
quarter saw both sides
trading baskets, before
Tarrick Johnson won the
game for London with a
basket 38 seconds from
time.
McGee (pictured) led the
Riders scoring with 20
points, but it was
Marlon Capers who led
all scorers in the game
with 29 points for
London.
