Andy Booth Scholarship Fund Game

Andy Booth was the type of guy who cared about the people around him, especially his hometown basketball club where he played all his life. On the 7th January, 2004 he was killed in a car accident in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a special guy, loved by many both inside the sport and outside of it. His death was unexpected and a shock to so many people. In the States Andy said he was ‘living his dream’ by being at college playing basketball and soccer as well as studying. He was so grateful for the chance to go to Oklahoma because although his work ethic was always second-to-one, he acknowledged that there were better players than him who didn’t get the opportunity. Friends & family have come together, setting up a scholarship fund that gives a helping hand to young players also trying to ‘fulfi ll their potential’. We feel this is the perfect way to mark Andys legacy.

Andy's Game will take place at Moorways Sports Centre, 5.30pm on the 7th June, 2008. Admission is free but donations are welcome. The event will include:-

• A “Derby themed” auction to be ran at the ‘after party’
• BBL warm up tops from all teams to be silently auctioned during the game
• Entertainment will include “Blazer”, cheerleaders, a half time 3-pt shoot out
• Raffl e and shooting competition to be ran
• Keyrings will be on sale for £1 to commemorating the day

All money raised goes towards the Andy Booth Scholarship Fund which helps young people take up scholarship positions in the states

Cheshire Jets 97 v Leicester Riders 104 (OT)

BiG Storage Cheshire Jets 97 (23,44,61)
(Otten 32, Obazuaye 26, Hamilton 14)
Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders 104 (22,42,65)

(Vear 28, Janiska 22, Lamble 18)

Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders won the battle for tenth place after an overtime win at BiG Storage Cheshire Jets. The victory gave them 10 wins for the season.

The victory was achieved in a frantic extra period, which saw their hosts finish the match with just three players.

Earlier Jets had held the lead at the end of the first quarter (23-22) and at half time (44-42). Riders edged ahead 61-65 at the end of three but couldn’t hold on to a 74-80 lead in the final stanza and were forced to make two free throws through Mindaugas Janiska with 1.1 seconds on the clock to force overtime.

Once into added time the Riders broke open a 93-93 scoreline with four free throws after the Jets bench had been called for a technical foul. Once Janiska had sank all four there was no way back for the Jets.
